I was once told that wishing someone a merry Christmas, as opposed to a happy Christmas, implies that you wish them to get completely drunk. I like the sentiment, regardless of correctness.

As I wrote to some other people:

A MERRY CHRISTMAS PAST AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

While Christmas is almost over (it lasts officially until Twelfth Night), the rest of 2012 is still to come. I hope people note the Dickensian hint in the expression "Christmas past", referring to a ghost in one of his most famous works.

Anyway, I hope we broaden our literary horizons this year with literature from all quarters of the globe. It's a big globe, and there's a lot of literature - of varying quality, of course. I hope people will introduce lots of new authors.
