This award was instituted by Sahitya Academy and Samsung Electronics and "The initiative was taken by the Korean Government and the Korean Embassy towards instituting Tagore Literature Awards for Indian Languages is a fine gesture, which leads to promotion of Indian Literature as well as cultural and literary bonds between two countries", according to Agrahara Krishnamurthy, secretary of Sahitya Academy.
What was interesting here is that Korea is initiating a literary award in India , in the name of the ONLY Nobel Laureate for Literature , this country has produced ( Of course, sponsored by one of the largest conglomerate from that country).
