Haha. After reading the first sentence I wondered if it was a stage adaptation of Moskve - Petushki and it turned out I was right. An interesting experiment though. It would have been more authentic and probably more efficient if Russian actors had been used . :p
Speaking of method acting and some things Russian, I looked up Eastern Promises on wiki the other day and was rather amused at reading this bit:

According to the New York Daily News (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Daily_News),[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Promises#cite_note-3) Viggo Mortensen studied Russian gangsters and their tattoos, and also consulted a documentary on the subject called The Mark of Cain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mark_of_Cain_%282000_film%29) (2000). The tattoos that he wore were so real that when he went into a Russian restaurant in London, a Russian couple sitting next to him became very quiet when they saw the tattoos on his hands, but since Mortensen could not speak ten words of Russian the mood of the restaurant changed back to normal.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Promises#cite_note-4) From that day on he washed off his tattoos whenever he went off the set.

Tattoos are an interesting study. I grew up in a fishing town where tattoos were only sported by fishermen and sailors, but nowadays everybody has them. The nice blonde girl who cuts my hair has Japanese characters tattooed on her hip which I can only make out when she bends over. I would love to see just how far down they go.

The Yakuza gangsters in Japan have tattoos which signify their clan allegiances, and I suppose it's the same with Russian gangsters. The ancient Scottish Picts were the "painted people" (Latin picti) although I don't think they painted saltires on their faces ? la Braveheart.

I notice the name of the director was Oliver Reese, not a million miles away from the name of the paralytic scar-faced actor Oliver Reed. There seems to be very little about this paralytic incident in the quality press, including that of Germany. Cheers!

It was mentioned at even greater length in the Guardian, but I read the Scotsman first.

Today's Scotsman has an illustrated article about Tallinn in the comic, sorry, magazine.
