Peter Carey's 1981 novel Bliss has been made into an opera which will be performed at this year's Edinburgh International Festival. It's thought to be the first time an opera singer has sung the immortal line "Stick it up yer arse!"
The star of the show says it will show the world a different side of Australian culture: "It's not another excuse for 'put another prawn on the barbie' and all that sort of rubbish that people identify us with. I think they'll suddenly see that we have something else to say".
Too right, mate. Like ... "Stick it up yer arse?"
Advance Australia fair!
(Sorry, forgot to fly the Aussie flag)
