Lust, Caution, by Eileen Chang. Miniaturist portraits of the disappointments of ordinary lives perfectly captured. Ach, don't be shy. Here's the post, and it will no doubt appear in the Blogosphere when the next update gets done. In fact, I think we should have a dedicated Eileen Chang thread.

I remember reading the short story prior to going to see the movie at the start of the year, but I'm afraid its the movie that has stayed more with me (probably those nipples!). I liked it, certainly, but will have to revisit it, and the others collected, in the volume, as well as another, longer, collection called Love In A Fallen City.

Oddly enough, though it's the most famous, Lust, Caution was not my favourite story of the bunch.

Good collection though, and like many here I'm more of a novel than a short story fan so I'd suggest people try not to let the short story tag put them off.

I believe Penguin are putting out a Chang novel some time next year. I can never remember it's name, save that it's Eighteen Something, or Something Eighteen. It will be in their Modern Classics range.

Eighteen Springs I believe, due out in 2009.

I really liked the movie - it was really well done, and despite all the hoo-hah about it being violent and lewd, I really didn't think it was. Confronting, yes, but very good.

I should really go and read the story now...
