~~LOL~~
If you enjoy the German chanteuse tradition, then Ute Lemper is worth listening to*. She's made several recordings of old Weimar cabaret songs – in German and in English. They are superb, together with her recordings of a lot of Kurt Weill's songs. * I've seen her on stage three times – my only reservation these days is that she had a blip (I hope) about nine years ago and stopped singing the cabaret stuff, denounced German culture and cleared off to the US, writing her own material (which was garbage, frankly). If she's doing what she does best, she'd well worth seeing live if you ever get the chance. |

I just came back from my trip to Germany and I really enjoyed those two weeks. One big advantage was that I didn't have to spend any money on a hotel because I visited a friend from college and she can call some Germany property her own where I stayed for the two weeks. Fortunately the weather was really nice (Berlin, great city) and I could make some amazing pictures. Maybe I'll go there again next year or so.

I've got a pile of books ready to go in my case – so hopefully that will prove my central occupation for the next 10 days. I hope you enjoyed your own holiday – even if it was busy. |

Mr. Dickens,
Tallin was fabulous and truly one of the highlights our of holiday. The child in particular was enchanted and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing place to enjoy nice people, strong coffee, and lots of walking. |

Berlin was exciting and vibrant and far too big to see in one day. But The Child and I decided we will go back to Germany in a couple of years, rent a car and see the whole country. We had a nice train ride from Warnemunde into Berlin so we saw lots of countryside in addition to a few bits of the city. Unfortunately, the American relations we were traveling with are not ardent travelers, complained constantly, and slowed us down irreparably. But what we saw of the city was splendid and more then enough to convince us to come back when we are able to travel at our pace and on our own terms.
