Film certainly influences fashion in general. I guess I'm the only one lunatic enough to let what I read influence what I wear, be it spectator pumps, fluttery skirts, or certain types of underpinnings. But reading about certain time periods and visualizing what characters wear and how they carry themselves...clothes make a difference.

I realized I forgot to mention the greatest literary mention of clothes probably ever -- Scarlett O'Hara wearing the draperies in "Gone With The Wind." It would never work for me -- too many mini-blinds in the house!

What a nice thread!
I worked in a office with some people who were really stilish (they were naturals!) and others who dared to arrive in flip-flops (absolute horror even for me, who don't possess a real pair of shoes, just sneakers and clogs and sandals) or "pinocchietti" (a sort of knickerbocker, very nice for girls and women, terrifying on a man's calf). I'm sure that my deep love for Israeli literature has caused a vertical drop of my already dubious elegance... ![]() |
