Brazil Paulo Coelho: The Winner Stands Alone

THE WINNER STANDS ALONE is a masterpiece: it talks about values lost and never found again. It looks like a thriller, but it is not - the characters are trapped and manipulated by the people Coelho calls "The Superclass". Once more Coelho made it. And I also believe Coelho is one of the few writers that are always exploring unknown seas, instead of repeating the same plot over and over again. Kudos to him.

If this is irony, it was very well managed by yourself. You are a master!
If it's not, what a shame

hey mirabell and daniel i know what you feel about coelho and i'm with you so far.but i have a confession to make that i consider reading this one
i know i know everything he wrote was garbage and corny but This new book has just published here and in book store they gave me this little booklet which has the first pages of the novel and i read it on the way home because i had nothing else to do(otherwise i wouldn't bother reading coelho again).well,i found it pretty interesting! But not like on literary basis, its just the subject appealed to me since i'm working for cinema industry. Now i'll probably purchase the book when i ready to read 'whatever'.I'll let you know anyway

You might want to watch Citizen Kane and There Will Be Blood. Both seem to be variants of this. And they are well-made.
I'm not really from outer space: I'm just mentally divergent.

Could you share in what aspect do you think they seem to be variants of the book?

All three of them share the theme of someone who gets to the top and is utterly alone there.

That's fine, time to time you have to read some really big crap to realize what goods books are and thanks good authors for their works. After reading Coehlo take Mishima and you'll like it even more.
Actually I'm should be mad at you not for this one, but for giving Murakami just one star. How could you!
I have to say that you started on the wrong Murakami book. Norwegian Wood though is his most popular work it's also one of his worse. If you still want to give him a chance I could give you some title names. Let me know.
