The Sade connection is an intriguing one; considering the truly hideous violence meted out on women in his books, I've always been a little bemused when women interested in erotica are drawn to him.

I rather agree with Refus. Given the nuts and bolts of liberating oneself from life on a crowded marketplace, and similar hobbies, it seems doubly masochistic (to allude to the Sachertorte who stands at the opposite end of the spectrum of pain to Sade) for women to wallow in all this.

If Sade were alive today, he'd be locked in a mental home for his own safekeeping. And yet authors and academics, especially such strange women, seem to think that Sade is the bee's knees (which that god of compassion and mercy, Peter Weiss, would remove, one by one with tweezers).

Very puzzling when so-called intellectuals and academics do endless research into the most dreadful ways of torturing and humiliating one's fellow beings. I think such people should be subjected to a year or two of the Sade treatment as a kind of prelims to a PhD study in insane torment. The dropout rate would them become commendably high.

I think this is a very kind endeavour of Professor Haddad. We need a new generation of liberty in wriing and distributing the works of great writers who broke the limits set in the Arab Islamic world.

Salwa Alneimi is also a very interesting writer who is calling for freedom in writing and distributing erotic literature. You might like to know more about her and read her Novel: "The Proof of Honey".
