    good evening.

i had at one point of time been fascinated by the works of andre gide.

now however i have an issue with him that can not be reconciled.

Gide's genius is no excuse for his paedophile indulgences.

yer neither his works nor their strengths has reduced.

Hi, my name's Lusipher (pseudonym) and I am glad to be in this group. I live in the USA in a midwestern city called St. Louis in the state of Missouri. I love to read, but I am not a fast reader; I prefer to call myself a careful reader. I am a writer but I read strictly for pleasure. Right now, I'm reading a lot of old books. Presently, I'm enjoying an old book by Tolstoy called The Death of Ivan Ilych, which is a collection of short stories. I had this book for 20 years and I've just gotten around to reading it. I'm glad I didn't read the book up to now because as an older man who's going through a divorce, I can connect with the masculine and female characters that Tolstoy created. I think you have to either be hypersensitive or you have to have had some first-hand experiences to really comprehend the characters Tolstoy created in these short stories.

Anyway, I'm glad to be part of the group.

    Norway Re: Introduce yourself

Hello. I?m the new guy from Norway. I came across this forum while doing a quick research before a seminar at the London Book Fair, which I?m attending right now.
I?m a journalist and critic at the Norwegian broadcasting. I do a bit of photography as well. For fun I read, take photographs (repeating myself?), walk the woods and listen to music - not necessarily simultaneously.
I hope I don?t get as addicted to this place as I have gotten with a couple of photo forums!

    Thank You, DreamQueen!
And yes, I love my work. My library consists of two rooms full of books mainly in english and russian, about semiotics and cultural theory and philosophy...
But I read a lot of fiction and I'm writing my thesis about Karl Ristikivi's historical novels.

As I said on another thread, I'm thankful to Eva as she is interested in Ristikivi, and has given me some useful tips regarding his works. (I've translated a novel by Ristikivi, but not yet found a publisher.)

Hello.. My name is Patricia. I live near Chicago. Have a personal relationship with Tolstoy but I regularly cheat on the Count with Dickens, Proust, and now, my Spanish lover, Cervantes. I speak only English so I must rely on translations for everything.

    In order of favoritism:

    Anna Karenina

    Les Miserables
    Atlas Shrugged
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Tale of Two Cities
Bleak House - tied with Don Quijote
    Tolstoy's short stories
    I admit to enjoying
    All Jonathan Kellerman
    Almost all John Grisham

I read a lot of literary criticism and literary analysis: Fond of Bakhtin, Leavis (both of them), Peter Brooks; and especially James Woods' 2008 book **How Fiction Works.**

I am writing a novel (for the past several years) and preparing to embark on the 6th and hopefully final rewrite since I have now discovered the proper narrative structure from which to write it.

I am looking forward to sharing analysis and discovery of the *Great Books* with other readers from around the world.

Hi. I tend to read in terms of chunks, such as writers from a particular period, or a writer's whole oeuvre, or writings from a regional area, or, well, you get the picture. At the moment I'm sort of torn between literary courses of action to follow, but I'll be following threads here to gain perpective on this forum, so may not add much initially. Then again, I may lay a few subtle eggs.
