    Spain Luis Mateo Díez

This may be a question for Stiffelio, who seems to be well up on Spanish-language literature.

Something I was translating led me to the name Luis Mateo Díez, whose name I'd never heard before but turns out to be a fairly prolific Spanish writer.

Our library only has "Las Estaciones Provinciales" (1982) and "La gloria de los niños" (2007). The former novel is set in the Spain of the 1950s. The latter seems also to be set in those years and deals with war orphans, if I've got my facts right.

I'm looking for translations, as my Spanish is by no means up to reading these books.

I'm afraid I can't help you: I haven't read this author. In fact, the Spanish language publishing world is a lot more fragmented and segmented than the English market. We don't get that many Spanish writers distributed in Latin America (except for well established names such as Vila-Matas, Marías, the Goytisolos, Pérez Reverte, Muñoz Molina and such) and vice-versa. It's a real shame.

I've never read him, but I did once have a Spanish friend who always spoke highly of him. Of his travel books, in particular, if I'm remembering right. I doubt anything's been translated into English.

I shall get a dictionary and read the 2006 introduction to the Estaciones book by the author himself, looking back at his 1982 book. Even if I don't read the book, I'll get to know more about this author.
