    Default Anti-Christ on TV

In about one hour they are showing Lars von Trier's film "Anti-Christ" on TV here in Denmark. I have not seen the film yet but know that it should be somewhat violent. What shall I expect? (Im suppose to be studying but feel I should take this chance to see the film when its aired on national TV).

Well, for starters, don't expect anything artistically profound or relevant to the question of human condition, . The violence is saved up for the last 20 minutes of the film; most of the movie is just Willem and Charlotte brooding in front of the camera, interspersed with some really kinky sex scenes. I'm sorry, but the scene where she cuts her clit off with a pair of rusty scissors is just SICK. Von Trier is sick, sick, sick, and I'm grateful that he's proved it publicly this year.

Yes, I like Charlotte too. In fact, even in films that I absolutely despise, her performances usually stand out.

I liked exactly two things in Antichrist: the talking animals and the hellish medieval imagery of the naked sinners (I'm talking about the scene where they have sex amongst HUNDREDS of suffering naked bodies, very Bosch-like, if you ask me).

Deep sigh....I survived watching the film! Gosh, it was disturbing!

I liked the colouring in the shots or do you say scenes? The dark blue colour...Jane Champion has also used the same kind of colouring..

Charlotte was great but boy is she skinny! Her body looks like a young boy's! Or a 12 year old girl. Come to think of it, then this fact actually says a lot about the film. How come the woman is not a curvey woman? With real full developed breasts and hips?

When Charlotte took the scissors, I swiched channel....I couldn't look...I was too scared...so I did not see that scene...I only saw her walking in the wood and coming back to the cabin.

Guess William had no idea what he led himself into when he suggested they went to the cabin and into the nature! And he failed as a therapist since he could not stop her madness running wild. He failed so much that he had to kill her.

I have to digest all the images of the film and I reckon it goes well with thoughts of life and death + reason versus senses which seems to be the huge topics many poets thought and wrote about in England...

What are you implying here, girlfriend? I thought the modern West's ideal of femininity was the anorexic supermodel.

Just imagine Scarlet Johanson playing the role of Charlotte.... All her curves would have been way too much for poor Lars. Way too much feminine nature...so better take a skinny Charlotte and lets stay intellectuel, eh?

    Andrej Pejic.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the whole concept of male models posing as androgynous female models, selling clothes for women.

It looks like a woman but I guess its a man? I think that Charlotte had almost the same kind of body only with a little breasts. And to me and I bet a lot of men; that is not feminine!
    - thats just some gay designer dreaming of men...

What crap is this??? This is not a supposed to be an erotic movie! So why the heck do you think they should have taken a more voluptuous (or more faminine, as you call it) woman?????

But how about the hardcore-like sex scenes, e.g. the introductory black and white scene, where those shown actually on your TV?? I cannot imagine that this would be possible, even in progressive Denmark?

What I liked most about the movie, what I think to be the greatest accomplishment of the movie, is the depiction of the forest. I have never seen such a realistic and awe-inspiring capture of the atmosphere in a real or imagined forest. I especially have the shots in mind where the wind is blowing through the trees and leaves (somehow a bit inspired by Tarkovsky's The Mirror).

My point was that William kills a woman aka the feminine nature but Charlotte is not very feminine bodywise!

Well, according to the English wikpedia entry they originially planned Eva Green as main actress, this would have better suited your taste then

An interesting and valid point! But, despite the fact that the actress herself is very skinny, perhaps we could potentially explain the character's scrawny looks as the aftermath of her grief? I mean, she just lost a child, she's not sleeping well, she's not eating properly, she's probably blaming herself for everything and guilt can eat away at you like nothing else can. No wonder she's lost a lot of weight!

So perhaps we can forgive her for not looking like Monica Bellucci:
