Default Kannada - Slovenia Book of Poetry - Beyond Barriers

Here is an unusual combination of languages in translation. A book poetry in translation between Kannada ( a South Indian Language - with rich literary history) and Slovenia is set to release.

Slovenian writing has been translated into Kannada and English and Kannada writing into Slovenian and English

It is indeed an unusual combination. But from what I've gathered they're pretty outward-looking in Bangalore. One of the few Indians I've spoken to at length came from there and translated Kannadi stories into English. Prior to that, I had never heard of Kannada, but I always note it now when I see the name.

The Slovenes have been the luckiest nation from the split-up of what is now ex-Yugoslavia. They have somehow been more organised than the rest, and have ended up in the European Union. We had a few brief discussions of the literature here, but as none of the posters to WLF appear to know Slovene, the discussions were neither long nor profound. As this book is in English as well as Kannada, we may be able to learn something from it.

Eric, Bangalore is more cosmopolitan and Kannada Speaking people are a minority here ( if I dare say so). Kannada Literature thrive beyond the borders of Bangalore. Myself and old friend Jayaprakash ( who seldom post now) are both from Bangalore, but neither are Kannada speakers. I heavily rely on translated literature even from Kannada. My level of Kannada is restricted to reading the boards on the buses and odd movie poster.

But the attempt is to be promoted, and I am not sure if this caught the attention of general readers. I myself, was not aware until the report came in news paper. Most of these excercises tend to limit themselves to the academic circle, and a couple of State sponsored awards.
