Could somebody explain to me the significance of the fact that Facebook is now on the stock market? When people buy shares in Facebook, what exactly are they buying into?

Sorry, I spelt it wrong. It's called Farcebook. Join it, they'll note down all your details, force you to buy shares you don't want, get sued, and then go bankrupt. Everybody moans about the European Union, but this farce is even bigger.
You know, this notion about "they have peta/zet bytes of information about their clientele and this information is their networth" kind of argument has been going on for a while. Mostly used by marketting folks, saying they can fine tune their advt to the individual who is browsing, depending upon his interests and previous history. Many books -remember reading "Growing up Digital and its follow on Grown Up Digital - explain this phenomenon as the thing to happen. However, even after all these years, you see no 'clear evidence' of this, apart from they look at the IP and populate the advt window with the regional campaigns. Hence, it is yet to be seen, howmuch Face/Farce/Fake book can capitalise on these data they seems to have gathered. At present , its all a big discussion/talk.
