Nâzım Hikmet (1902-1963) was a famous Turkish poet, playwright and memoirist, considered to be Turkey's greatest modern poet. For his Communist views, he was imprisoned in Turkey and his work was banned. His poetry has been translated into more than fifty languages.

His Wiki page (in English) includes a smattering of his poetry.

Hikmet's final book--an autobiographical novel about a man who is imprisoned for being a Communist, his friends, and the women he loved--will soon be available in English translation for the first time.
