"An art whose medium is language will always show a high degree of critical creativeness, for speech is itself a critique of life."

~ Thomas Mann (1875 - 1955)

Ireland William Trevor

I am reading a new book by the great Irish writer William Trevor and I was searching this forum curious to see what people here knew or thought about him. I am surprised I didn't find much at all. He is one of the greatest living writers in the English language. Allow me then to open a thread in his name. I welcome you to discuss his work if you happen to have read any of his books and I recommend that you rush and read him if you haven't yet. Here are a couple of links to learn more about Trevor.

William Trevor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Over the years I have read a few Trevor novels, of which I'd recommend Mrs. Eckdorf in O'Neill's Hotel, The Children of Dynmouth, Reading Turgenev, My House in Umbria and Felicia's Journey. I also loved his collection of short stories Angels at the Ritz and I am now enjoying Cheating at Canasta.

I know only Egoyan's film of Felicia's Journey which was quite strange and good.

I've read The Story of Lucy Gault and Felicia's Journey by him and enjoyed both. The style of Lucy Gault struck me as being more old-fashioned, resembling novels from the first half of the 20th century and I really liked that about it. I've also been meaning to see the film based on Felicia's Journey, Elaine Cassidy who is playing the lead is a wonderful actress!
