Alexandra Fuller: Don't lets go to the dogs tonight

A true story that reads like any good fiction, Fuller's memoir takes you to countries in Africa while her family from the UK attempts to make a living as farmers dodging the dangers of civil wars and some of the natural invaders such as snakes under beds.

Written from a young girl's tone in the dialect of the region, 'Bobo' and her sister have adventures, and learn harsh realities, but none greater than within the family itself. (please don't spoil it for yourself by reading the jacket)

Great sense of place, sad, humorous, clever prose, this book instantly became close to my heart. I felt that I was sitting around with 'mum' at times having a drink under the shade of the trees, and discussing the topic of the hour.

Set in what is now Zimbabwe.
