Marked by a "hallucinatory realism" and "linguistic ingenuity" according to SA when laurated Mo Yan and Gao Xingjian, respectively, this movement emerged as a counterpoint for Misty Poets.
It upraised with the aim of dribbling the Censorship on arts in general by Chinese Cultural Revolution.

I always feel that reading Soul Mountain by Xinjiang remains an unforgettable reading experience. Xue is, for me, the most difficult and uneasy writer in this group (as I haven't read Ha Jin, Jian, Yan, Hua and Lianke yet).
