Guys, I'd decide to start this thread telling a sad story (but with a happy final).

Last month, Roseana Murray, Brazilian writer who writes for children and young adults, especialy poems, was attacked by three abandoned pit bulls (American Bull Terrier), a common dog race in Brazil used for guarding or by people without any kind of sense (in fact, many people who liked to get notice).

She was attacked and, unfortunately, lost one of her arms and ripped off one of her ear.

After to be mauled by these dogs, she was under critical condition during 1 month. Today, she was discharged from the hospital.

About the mauling situation: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13283913/author-Roseana-Murray-mauled-pit-bulls-Brazil.html

About the discharge from the hospital: https://g1.globo.com/rj/rio-de-janeiro/noticia/2024/04/18/roseana-murray-tem-alta-do-hospital.ghtml (Portuguese)

She won numerous literary awards around the word.

That's horrible,

I heard that some regions in Russia suffer from the same problem: abandoned dogs come together in packs, they have nothing to eat, so they go out "hunting". It's just unbelievable. People who can't take care of their animals have no business having those animals in the first place.

This situation has some depth here, Liam.

During the 90's, it was very common that a young man who had a deviant behavior had Pit bulls, Dobermans, Filas Brasileiros (Brazilian Mastiffs) to boast power and agressiveness, principally in Rio de Janeiro.

This is stupid situation is due to "Vale-Tudo" culture (the root of MMA - Mixed Martial Arts) and disputes between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Luta-Livre (Brazilian Catchwrestling)'s practicioners (or as we say here "pitboys").
It was very common to warp the ears (like a cauliflower ear), to have dozens of dogs (even if you live in a tiny kitnet or a studio), to promote intense brawls everywhere, to walk with another guys like a "gang" etc.

The time passed but the culture to have many tough dogs even in a tiny kitnet or don't take care of your pets still remains. Sad!
