Romantics were fond of medieval and found inspiration in nature. Favourite English Romantic poet for me is Lord Byron, especially his short poems. Keats is another English Romantic poet I love.

Agree with you Benny on High School student hating Romantics. I once read a long poem by William Wordsworth and was very bored. Same for some poems of Goethe and long poems of Tennyson.

Well, Romanticism was very important for having laid a collective national spirit (geist) in different nations abroad Central Europe (many countries upraised against huge Empires, eg Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, etc), for eliminating the Slavery in Latin American countries and North America (many Romanticists in Brazil, for example, were strongly involved with Abolitionist Movements) and for popularizing Arts in general for proletarian and poor people.

We also can cite Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Georg Hegel, Pierre Prodhoun, Max Stiner, Emma Goldman, Mikhail Bakunin, Enrico Malatesta and other Marxists and Anarchists in Social Sciences and Charles Darwin, Louis Pasteur, etc in Natural Sciences who had Romanticism Spirit.
