I just saw a post recommendation on my phone's browser, nothing related to his death (only the heading was visible), but I was suspicious of it, and was sad (and shocked) to discover the news when I googled his name.

I have actually read his wife Siri's books, and I remembered an article I read about her relationship with Auster. Still shocked.
