Have been meaning to read this book for long and finally got time. It is a day's read but synthesising and understanding the contextual backstory of the book is a long process.
There is a half-page introduction before the first chapter 'Where do old birds go to die', it gives a brilliant prelude to what lies ahead. Roy builds intricate characters throughout the novel and uses them as dots. These dots are vaguely introduced and placed at random points. But as the character arc broadens, the characters expand and come closer to each other. And when Roy interconnects their stories and juxtaposes them with the history, taboo and problems of India, one is left with an overwhelming piece of eloquent literature.
What are your thoughts about the book?
