Confessional poetry is an artistic movement originated from United States in the late 1950s and early 60s, focusing on individual experience, psyche and personal trauma, taboo subject matters, suicide and sexuality and mental illnesses often set in relation to broader social themes.

Great thread, Ben! Well, taking the opportunity, in parallel, I'd like to instill here another similar movement in Brazil, sliced in 2 imbricated parts, called as "Geração Mimeógrafo" ["Mimeo Generation"] in Poetry and "Tropicalismo" or "Tropicália" ["Tropicalism"] in music who focused in Confesional Poetry.
Key figures: Paulo Leminski, Waly Salomão, Chacal, Cacaso, Torquato Neto, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Tom Zé, etc.
