After over 15 years as an academic translator working on PhDs and double blind randomized studies, I got fed up. I wanted something different. However, there is much more competition in literary translation, so haven't done that much. I translated a short modernist novel by a Norwegian writer. It is on amazon here

Literary translations actually turned out to be more difficult than academic translations in my view. First, the texts are longer, then they are more varied. Academics publish articles on autopilot, and these are written using templates, rigid rules and established guidelines.
