I liked Anya's character, she had enough empathy to stop her mercenary boyfriend from robbing the writer, at the same time she held herself away from the writers pretty obvious advances. Coetzee has good real characters in all his books, some more likeable than others (I'm pretty fond of Elizabeth Costello). All of his characters leap off the page as real.....

I thought it was pretty good, not as good as Slow Man or some of his earlier work. Again, I recommend Life and Times of Michael K...

This was a briliant read, but I found the two bottom threads(JC's lamentations and Anya's commentary) too thin for my liking. As in, they didn't feel like they carried too much weight.
