Mario Vargas Llosa

Mario Varags Llosa received 18 out of 22 votes (which included two non-votes) in the first and only round of voting -- a stunning election-result; usually these elections go through several rounds, and it's almost unheard of, even in the final instance, to get that high a percentage of the votes.

At least we have a pretty good idea who those two votes against belonged to.
Isn't that right, Daniel and Ludus?

Impressive voting results for Don Mario. Good for him! He's the first member of the Académie who hasn't written anything in French. Moreover, they made the exception of honoring him despite being well over the age limit of 75.

Here we can see don Mario shamefully endorsing José Antonio Kast, chilean far right presidential candidate ?

Not surprising anymore, this man is a disgrace for Latinoamérica. Peruvian writer Diego Trelles Paz and Colombian Felipe Restrepo Pombo were rightfully bashing him at the recent bookfair for endorsing Keiko Fujimori, a criminal and daughter of a dictator who is in prison, and Iván Duque, a puppet and the continuity of the Uribismo in Colombia.
The best that could happen to him right now, in order to stop hurting what is left his legacy, is to pass away, as we all know he's not going to shut up.

And apparently there is a group of french intellectuals who agree with us.

After reading the not so good In Praise of Step-Mother, here are Llosa's books I plan to read:

Feast of a Goat
Conversations in a Cathedral
War at the End of the World
Aunt Julia and Scriptwriter
Green House
Time of the Hero

Which of these books should I start first?

And it seems he is, stopping, that is:

I haven't read Harsh Times (Tiempos Recios), which on paper seems to be a return to form, but his recent output really did suggest he'd just better quit while he was on top... Not every Nobel winner is a Coetzee...
