The writers' association PEN Ukraine confirmed on June 29 that the Ukrainian writer and war crimes researcher Victoria Amelina was injured and hospitalized after the June 27 Russian missile strike in Kramatorsk.

"Now Victoria is in the hospital. She is treated by experienced doctors, supported by her family and friends, and well stocked with all the essentials. There is no need in raising extra money," PEN Ukraine wrote.

"Further updates will be given by PEN Ukraine with permission from Victoria's family."

Ukrainian Writer Victoria Amelina Dies After Kramatorsk Strike

The 37-year-old poet and novelist became the 13th person to be killed in the missile strike on a restaurant in eastern Ukraine on June 27.

Last Tuesday, the European Union announced its contingent of writers who will participate in FIL Guadalajara 2023 as their guest. In this group, there were two Ukrainian writters who were invited despite this country not being part of the UE: Andrei Kurkov and Victoria Amelina.
I had heard about Kurkov before, he has some books translated to Spanish but it was the first I heard Amelina´s name.
That same day happened the missile attack and it was announced she was in critical condition.
Colombian writer Héctor Abad Faciolince was with her at the moment of the attack, but he only had minor injuries.
Yesterday she passed away. Such sad news especially because of the context and her being so young. RIP.
