Your favourite painting

I searched a thread similar to this and as I haven't found one, so I've opened it myself.

I think it would be interesting posting our favourite paintings, the ones we like most. I'm a little interested in paintings, although I'm not an expert and I'm not to able to draw a thing!
I'll start by posting two of my favourite paintings.

This is Millet's Angelus:

And this Waterhouse's The Lady of Shalott (I had to check the name of the author; see?, I'm not an expert!):

What about yours?

I like The Lady of Shalott painting. Really very nice.

Can anyone explain this picture to me? What the artist wanted to convey?

A wonderful, if not well-known painter (outside her home country): Anna Ancher (1859-1935). Wiki bio here.

I find these two paintings immensely moving and psychologically acute: Sunshine in the Blind Woman's Room and A Blind Woman in Her Room.

Hi everyone. I am not so good in paintings but I really like John Martins works. This one (John Martin - On the Great Day of His Wrath) especially.

Right now it's The Houses of Parliament or Haystacks or The Four Trees, but that might be because I just saw them at the Met. Seeing them there live is breathtaking.

Diego Velázquez - Portrait of Pope Innocent X

Heady and fulfilling moment seeing it at its own special room at the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj in Rome.

@Bartleby: what's the name of the painting that you suddenly began using as your avatar? :)
It’s “Green and Gold”, by Henry Scott Tuke, patron of the Male beauty, innocence, and idyllic naivety. Some will see eroticism in his works but I don’t.*

*Nothing wrong if it were there or if some saw that tho

Thanks, he has some really lovely paintings.

From Wikipedia: "Here he could indulge his passion for painting boys." ?

Not sure about full-blown eroticism, but his stuff is definitely sensual.

And isn’t every good piece of art (and the appreciation of it) :) ?

I like this guys paintings, my favorite would be The Critics. Yes, they are quite sensual, but when i realize they might be underage my brain auto-shutdowns any sensuality detection mechanism, kind of sad i guess

Hmm, I guess "sensual" doesn't have to equal "sexual." Like in all those Renaissance paintings of the cherubim--all those childlike angels--they are definitely sensual (the pink skin, the flaxen hair, etc) but sexual? Not really. That would be super weird.
