If you have any problems with the forum - and I hope you don't - then please post them here and I'll take a look.

It's not a problem as such, but in perusing this board I noticed that, at the lowest lecvel of organization, you have not threads on authors but on books. As long as this board keeps being as big or small as it is, it's fine, but it may soon become rather unmanageable. Coming to the board to look for a Maalouf thread can be hard with a possible 20+ pages of threads, but to look for each maalouf book seperately...?

I think it's slightly confusing and not very clearly arranged.

I've been meaning to post this for some time....but somehow, I haven't gotten around to it until now. I believe there have been complaints from many listmembers about the forum logging them out after a certain amount of time. Initially, I lost many of my posts because of this. However, I found a way to thwart the problem. The only time I lose posts now is when my computer disconnects from the internet--which has absolutely nothing to do with this forum. At any rate, here's my secret: save your post as you're working on it by clicking on "Preview Post." If you do this every five minutes or so, the site will keep you logged in. I know it's a bit of a hassle, but it's worth the extra effort. Who wants to have to re-write their posts if they don't have to?

Stewart, I hope it was ok to post this under the "Forum Issues" thread. I wasn't exactly sure where to include it.

Best,
Titania

Alternatively, ensure that you click the Remember Me option when logging in. You shouldn't be forgotten then.

Good to know, Stewart. This suggestion is even more hassle-free than the one I gave.

Can everyone edit their profiles without any problems? Delays, timeouts, etc. I've had an email from a new member saying they can't and I just want to confirm whether its the forum or not.

I haven't had any problems, Stewart. Thanks for making sure.

Everything has been fine with profiles so far.

I have a different problem. When I click on the Multi quote this message button (the one that looks like a double quote), nothing happens. The quote and qr buttons do work.

You need to mark all the multi-quote buttons on all the posts you want to quote, and then hit the quote button.

No problems editing my profile. I only do so when I change from reading one book to the next.

I posted this elsewhere but this is the correct place to do it.

I am having trouble using the forum. The front page loads fine and "Today's Posts" loads fine, but sometimes when I click to see new posts on a thread, it just hangs trying to load the page. I get this also and more often with private messages and member profiles.

Liam has sent a message to say he has similar problems. Like me, his are not occuring with other forums. I am using Vista Business and I've only had this PC for a few months. I use AVG for antivirus software. I just thought we might be able to narrow down what is wrong if there are a few with the same problems, or what is different for those who don't have the problem.

Thanks!

Did this resolve itself? I'm going to (finally) update the forum software this weekend to the latest version. We'll see if that fixes anything.

I joined a French forum of literature not long ago and found it very close in the construction to worldLit.
If they have more sections about art/cinema /Music i don't feel would be escencial here right now(nice though !),they have sub section in literature that are well thought.
I like that fact that Worldlit is very compact and one does not get lost in hundreds of chat things, but due to its hugh success and ever growing size, sub section in liberary of Babel would become soon primordial if we want to find our ways.As well has pleasant.
A few sujestions.
Europe could welcome a English/Irish/Scotts ,French/Italian/Sapnish,ect...subsections and a main generale one?
Americas South and North?
Asia with Japan as a big chunk of it,Meddle East,ect.....plus general.
and so on.

Just have a look at it Parfum de livre?forum litt?raire forum litt?rature it's in French but you will be able to get lost of it.And don't mind the japanese garden of the presentation, they do have interesting reviews.

Thomas, that's one of the things I've always anticipated. However, I'm not sure we're there yet, as the Tags (when people use them ;) ) will show popularity of a subject. At the moment the dominant subject is US Literature, followed by British literature. Who'd have thought it on such a forum, eh?

I'm not sure what you mean.
It's obvious the main interest is US and British literature(from sheer amont of publication) but surely the singularity of the forum is its international interests. If people fall back to what is more widely distribute is normal. They still come for the diversity in the first place.

Of course you are right,it might be more confusing that helping just yet.

This is just a neophyte suggestion of course Stewart and i admire the work you put in here.I don't really understand much about the Web arcanes.
Thanks

Stewart: I wonder if you might consider opening an "Obscure Writers" category. While I don't find Lionel Britton the least bit interesting, I have no objection to those that do -- except that it would appear to me they are determined that he should always show up in the Writers category.

If you cannot address this issue, could you please advise on what I should do to eliminate all presence on this forum? I would like to excuse myself from this kind of abuse.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

I agree. I'm not sure about an obscure section as what may be obscure to some would be common to others. I have, however, closed the thread as it does appear that interest in Britton is a one-way affair and the ongoing bumping of the thread can be distracting.
