A small problem with this forum: everyone is asexual with their ambiguous atavars, but should anyone get the gender or proclivity wrong, a rumpusette ensues. Wouldn't it be easier if we actually revealed our identities (except, of course, for those people in countries where they would risk imprisonment or execution)? One of our number's vacillations has caused me to wonder which of his admissions is the provocation, which the truth. He gets irritated if I call him homosexual, then suddenly says "one of us" when referring to the LGTB community. You can't keep playing the AC/DC "keep you guessing" card on this forum without losing credibility. I don't care whether people are men or women here, as long as they can debate in a civilised manner.

I recommend you read the LGBT thread. I explain in detail there. Thank you.

So, Mirabell, which are you: lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transsexual? I would not normally enquire, as this is a very private matter, but you have contradicted yourself so often on this issue here, that I cannot understand where you stand. Yet you keep calling me a liar at every juncture. Please explain on this thread in unequivocal terms, once an for all where you stand on this. Or, alternatively, keep quiet about it in threads where it is irrelevant.

You must understand that most of us are not interested in the sexuality of a number of young members of this forum, as it it not relevant to many issues involving linguistics, politics, literature, and so on.

Revealing one's identity can have career disadvantages, especially for the young. Employers now regularly do Google searches on prospective employees. If you never post anything that you wouldn't mind them reading, that's not necessarily a problem, but for most it is. In my case, I don't care what anyone thinks, because I'm retired.

Oh learn to quit taking yourself so damned seriously. It's exhausting and annoying. Liam hasn't done anything that should drive away "codgers" except for those people who display a lack of patience or gross sensitivity. There's no reason why fun and prodding and joking can't interact with serious discussion. My advice is to get over yourself.
This isn't Brat Central. Whether you want to believe it or not, there are different kinds of people participating on this site, and many of them aren't in your age group. To presume that all of them think like a twenty-year-old is - presumptuous. Even your elders, Liam and Mirabell, have made their mea culpas: New Year's resolutions in June?

Even your elders, Liam and Mirabell

well now, that's just mean. ;)

But I like Waalk the way he is, and for all I care he can stay that way until he grows up as we are all wont to do. There are many more 20-year olds (+/- 2-3 years) on this site and I find Waalk the most delightful to read of them because he brings a certain energy to the forum that is very typical of his age, but at the same time refreshing and pleasant. Mostly.

You can be in charge of disciplining him when it becomes necessary. I agree that the diversity here is good - better than lopsided representation by one sub-group.

I'll be glad to. ;)

I'm feeling a little older these days. Mainly I just don't enjoy The Little Prince like I did even last year. Probably not because I'm growing up and more because I made the mistake of reading some of the backstory about it and realized it was the product of a cheesy Frenchman writing a veiled story about his unnecessarily turbulent relationship and showing his wife how sensitive he could be. Now that nags at the back of my mind as I read it, more so since I borrowed a German translation from a teacher and am reading it more carefully than I otherwise would.

Who knew that to presume was presumptuous? <snark> In any case, it has nothing to do with thinking like a twenty-year old. It has to do with getting annoyed too easily. Personally nothing in the world offends me except for insults to my intelligence or opinions. I just kind of expect other people to not get too upset when someone chides them. But it's not an issue, as this is apparently the point where we all join hands and sing koombaya. I changed my approach to this site a while ago, and so far it's been working well for the most part.

I was just prickling at you, for being so serious. Even I, when I'm ranting and raving and angry, don't really take myself seriously. I still stand by what I generally advise you; which is to step away from yourself sometimes, or to view the world from a less skeptical or critical or practical eye--you might come to find that it's a very different and altogether more flexible perspective.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to insult you mirabell. You only insult people you think can do better, so it's a complement in its own way. Like Eric for instance, you're always on his case because you think he's an intelligent guy with an excellent career and you expect him to hold himself to a higher standard when making claims and judging information. Nothing wrong with that, and I don't think you should completely change your approach, maybe just tone it down a bit.
